Final Landscape
This is a 1 hour pastel drawing of a skyline. The rule of thirds is present in the image and the tower is the focal point of the image as it intersects the points of interests on the rule of thirds. Also due to the composition of the clouds and the sky, the tower stands out more and because of this the tower is the first part of the image that is seen when looking at it. The tower is also in an area of interest on the rule of thirds. The light and shadow on the clouds creates a dramatic composition as the eye is led from the tower to the light on the top of the cloud. Then the eye is led down along the shadow to the light in the middle of the image on the cloud. This carries on as the eye is led to the light on the small cloud at in the background. This shows an implied line in the image. In the image there are a few layers which create depth. There are the houses and tower in the foreground, the hills in the midground, the clouds in background layer 1 and the sky in the far background. There is some tonal variety in the clouds as the darker blue has been blended with white, grey and the yellow. The colours and tonal values give a sense of 3 dimensions in the clouds forms. There is contrast between the foreground which is less detailed than the sky because of the loose work done in the clouds to give form whereas the building have a simple shape drawn.
