Transparent Surfaces
This is a 50 minute drawing of a composition made up of objects with transparent surfaces. In this composition the items are refracting some of the light in the room and they are also creating some shadows. The highlights at the top and the middle of the jug are the focal points of this image. The shaded area of the jug is a focal points because it is in the rule of thirds with the highlight but also the jar in the back is helping to create that shadow. The background is helping to bring out the highlight because it is dark and it can be seen through the jug. There are some strong highlights also on the table because of the light that is refracting from the jugs. An implied line can be seen starting from the highlight at the top of the jug and then travelling left to the handle. It then curves around the handle and goes towards the shadow next to the jug and then to the strong highlight below the jug. The background shows some depth and the shadow underneath the table make sure it is not floating in space. The rule of thirds can be applied to this image because the main focal point is the highlights on the jug which are on the rule of thirds.
