Final Still Life

This is a 50 minute still life of some objects using charcoal. There are some strong highlights and some strong shadows in this image. On the larger jug there is a strong highlight on the right hand side. This is a focal point of the image as it is in the rule of thirds and also the highlight carries on onto the smaller jug. This leads the eye from the bigger jug to the smaller and curving around to the small jugs handle and this creates an implied line. The shading and line on the jugs help to give it shape, volume and form as the line curve show that the shape is 3 Dimensional. The objects are reflecting and refracting the light which is coming from the top right. The background adds depth to the image and contrasts the strong highlights on the objects making them stand out more and therefore drawing the person’s attention. There are some shadows cast by the objects but most of the light passes through them because they are translucent and transparent.
